Meet NDIS Care Consultant – JACKIE

Why did you join Your Side?

I have always had a passion to work in the disability sector. Your Side is a great organisation – everyone who works here genuinely cares about their clients. Everyone at Your Side is very supportive and it is great to be able to all work together to meet the needs of our clients.

What is the most important part about your role as an NDIS Care Consultant?

The most important part would be to listen to our participants, get to know them, understand what types of supports they need and assist them by organising these supports.

How do you think Your Side improves care and wellbeing of their NDIS participants?

Your Side is able to support our participants with the services they need which helps them to reach their NDIS goals.

Can you give us an example of an NDIS participant good news story?

One of my participants is in a wheelchair and has many appointments that she needs to attend to. Before Your Side she would take public transport or taxis to get to her appointments. When I informed her that we have a provider that has a wheelchair accessible van that would be able to assist her she was so thrilled. She uses this service regularly now and likes that the driver of the van is also a support worker who can help by carry any bags she needs into appointments or hospitals.

Is there a personal experience with the NDIS that you would like to share? Or do you have a lived experience?

One of the best parts of my job is getting to speak to our participants. Recently I got to experience meeting one of my participants face-to-face who I have spoken to over the phone for 2 years. It was lovely to put a face to the voice I had been talking to for so long. It was amazing listening to her talk about her NDIS experience and how Your Side services have been able to support her to reach her NDIS goals.

How do you think the NDIS can be improved?

I think it would be great to have all supports for the participant working together to assist them in reaching their NDIS goals. At the heart of it, we need to work together to give them the choice and control over their NDIS.

What does Your NDIS look like?

My NDIS puts the people and their needs first, it’s real, authentic and it focuses on the people we care for.
