Your Side’s offices are located on the land of the Cammeraygal people, and we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land as well as the traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia, and recognise their continuing connection to the lands, sky, waters and communities. We pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past and present.
The Cammeraygal people – also referred to as Gamaraigal, Kameraigal, or Camaraigal – roamed the bushland and fished from the foreshore of the peninsula in Middle Harbour now known as Northbridge.
Older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are admired and respected as knowledge holders, role models, caregivers, leaders and teachers. They are central members of families and communities who pass culture and traditions onto the next generation. Becoming an Elder is a process of active shared engagement across the generations. Elders have the important role of acting as keepers and enforcers of law, stories and culture.
We celebrate the values of respect, care and importance elders are afforded in Aboriginal culture and we aim to learn from, and honour this in our care for ageing Australians.
Your Side’s vision for Reconciliation is a society where equality, human rights and fairness is central to caring for each other, so that Every Life can be a Good One.
Our Reflect RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan), endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, is Your Side’s formal promise to reconciliation. Our commitment is born from the need to understand and deliver culturally safe care within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and to trust, respect and learn about care from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that the broader Australian community will benefit from.
Reconciliation Action Plans are not about transforming an organisation, they are about transforming the people within the organisation, so that we live in an inclusive, and respectful society.
We thank Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for letting each of us walk alongside them, acknowledging that we have much to do to learn, to listen and to act.
