Meet Community Engagement Consultant – JEREMY

What are your qualifications/background?

I graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees, majored in business, Sciences, Asian Studies and Chinese Translation. I worked 20 years at American Express as a Relationship Director and acted as the company’s official Chinese language spokesperson. I have also been working in the health sector for more than 5 years now.

我毕业于悉尼大学，获得学士和硕士学位，主修商业、科学、亚洲研究和中文翻译。我在美国运通工作了二十年，担任过关系总监和公司的官方中文发言人。我也已经在公共卫生行业工作了五年多。

Which languages do you speak?

I speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and two other Chinese dialects.

Why did you join Your Side?

With my language skills, extensive work experience and strong local community connection, I hope I will be able to help minority communities which urgently need support the most.

How do you think the Carer Gateway improves care and wellbeing of carers?

Most carers are quite isolated, particularly people in minority groups whose first language is not English. The Carer Gateway provides them with an opportunity to meet other carers, receive quick support on logistics and financial assistance.

Is there a personal experience with carers that you would like to share? Or do you have a lived experience?

During one’s life, everyone becomes a carer of some capacity. Some may have to go through a particularly difficult journey and many others still have to deal with the natural ups and downs of this role. This is something I have personally experienced and observed from family and friends. I hope I will be able to help as many carers as possible in our local communities.
