What is a Level 1 Home Care Package?
Home Care Packages are in-home care services that are subsidised by the Australian Government to help you live in the comfort of your own home while receiving care.
Level 1 Home Care Packages (HCP Level 1) are designed to support people who have basic lower-level care needs. Basic level care needs can include basic everyday support such as cleaning the house, improving your health and wellbeing, shopping and transport.
A level 1 package with Your Side will mean you can have about 2.5 hours of support per week to enable you to live independently in your own home.
You may be offered a level 1 package even though you have been approved for a higher level package, while you wait for a higher level package to become available.
What is included in a Level 1 Home Care Package?
- Personal care
- Domestic assistance
- Social support
- Meal preparation
- Shopping
- Transport
- Social support
How much is a Level 1 Home Care Package?
For each Home Care Package, the Australian Government will pay a different amount. This amount will be paid directly to your chosen home care provider.
The subsidy that will be paid for your Home Care Package will depend on whether you have to pay an income-tested care fee. This will be determined during an income assessment by Centrelink.
As of July 2024, the Government subsidy for level 1 Home Care Packages is $409.92 per fortnight. This contribution increases every year.
Home Care Package: Level 1 holders would generally benefit from having a minor level of support in their own home. Level 1 Home Care Packages are ideal if you or your loved one wish to prevent premature or unnecessary admission into a residential aged care home.
To access a Level 1 Home Care Package, you or your loved one will need to undergo an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) – see our 3 steps to follow below. This assessment will determine whether you are eligible to receive a Home Care Package and if a Level 1 package would be suitable for your in-home care needs.
