What is a Level 2 Home Care Package?
Home Care Packages are home care and home help services that are subsidised by the Australian Government to help you live in the comfort of your own home while receiving care.
Level 2 Home Care Packages (sometimes seen abbreviated as HCP Level 2 or HCP2) are aimed at supporting people who have low level care needs. This may include assistance with daily tasks like cleaning and personal care, transport and shopping or gardening – all from the comfort of your own home. If you or a loved one has low level aged care needs, you may be eligible to receive assistance with a range of tasks.

How much is a Level 2 Home Care Package?
Recipients of a Level 2 Home Care Package may also be eligible to enter residential aged care, but would prefer to remain living independently at home.
For each Home Care Package level, the Australian Government will pay a different amount. This amount will be coordinated by your Home Care Package provider.
The subsidy that will be paid for your Home Care Package will depend on whether you have to pay an income-tested care fee. This will be determined during an income assessment by Centrelink.
As of July 2024, the Government subsidy for level 2 Home Care Packages is approximately $720.86 per fortnight. This contribution increases every year.
To access a Level 2 Home Care Package, you or your loved one will need to undergo an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) – see our 3 steps below. This assessment will determine whether you are eligible to receive a Home Care Package and if a Level 2 package would be suitable for your in-home care needs.
