Staff Profile – George

I originally come from a Banking and Finance and IT background in both technical and staff management roles within the Corporate sector, but over the last 12 years I have being passionately working in Community Services, and have gained an extensive personal and professional knowledge of the NDIS and disability sector. I assist carers and consumers in the ever so complicated maze of funding choices (or lack of) and pass on learnings from my own personal experience of being a father and carer to my 19-year-old son with autism.

I’m the Team Leader for Carer Services, responsible for the management and daily activity of the Carer Gateway program in the Greater Sydney region, in partnership with the Benevolent Society. We support carers with such services as: emergency respite, care directed packages, peer support groups and counselling. We assist carers to plan and coordinate support as well as check in periodically to ensure both the carer and care recipients are supported appropriately if their situation changes.

What is your favourite thing about working with and for carers?

I have a passion and personal connection to support and assist carers as I am a carer myself. I understand from my own experience that caring for loved ones is a challenging enough role and having the opportunity to assist carers through this journey is the most rewarding part of my role and I look forward to having the opportunity to support our families here at Your Side.

One of the biggest attractions and reason why I joined the Your Side team is the culture and people here. My connection with Your Side has been a long one and extends professionally through brokerage partnership, training and carer support programs. I’m hoping to add to this by bringing my own carer experiences and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work alongside a dynamic and forward-thinking team to implement the new Carer Gateway program across our Sydney carers community, which is an exciting opportunity for myself and Your Side.
