Level 3 Home Care Package

Intermediate Care

What is a Level 3 Home Care Package?

Home Care Packages are in-home care and home care services that are funded (either in part or in full) by the Australian Government to help you live in the comfort of your own home while receiving care.

Level 3 Home Care Packages (HCP Level 3 or HCP3) are designed to support people who have intermediate level care needs. Home care workers will assist you in your day-to-day tasks, as well and services and support in some of the items listed below. If you or a loved one has intermediate level care needs, you may be eligible to receive assistance with a variety of tasks.

You may be offered a level 3 Home Care Package while you wait to be assigned a level 4 package due to national waitlists for higher level packages. Home Care Packages can cover the cost of anything that is related to your care plan and goals, and will assist you to continue to live at home independently, safely and with dignity for as long as you are able.

This may include but is not limited to:

  • Personal care
  • Domestic assistance
  • Household assistance
  • Aids & Equipment – e.g. shower chair or 4 wheel walkers
  • Social support
  • Meal preparation
  • Medication management
  • Nursing support
  • Allied health support
  • Shopping
  • Transport
  • Social support
  • Support with changes to memory and/or behaviour
  • Physiotherapy & massage

How much is a Level 3 Home Care Package?

For each Home Care Package, the Australian Government will pay a different amount. This amount will be coordinated by your chosen home care provider.

The subsidy that will be paid for your Home Care Package will depend on whether you have to pay an income-tested care fee. This will be determined during an income assessment.

As of July 2024, the Government subsidy for level 3 Home Care Packages is approximately $1,569.98 per fortnight. This contribution increases every year.

Recipients of a Level 3 Home Care Package would more than likely be eligible to enter residential aged care, but would prefer to remain living in the comfort of their own home.

To access a Level 3 Home Care Package, you or your loved one will need to undergo an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) – see our 3 steps below. This assessment will determine whether you are eligible to receive a Home Care Package and if a Level 3 package would be suitable for your in-home care needs.
